2023 NFL Mock Draft: C.J. Stroud or Bryce Young Number One?
By Evan Bachman
4. Philadelphia Eagles (From NO): Jalen Carter, DL, Georgia
Thanks to a trade with the Saints in last year’s draft the Eagles find themselves in a fantastic spot with the opportunity to add a high impact player to an already loaded roster. Jalen Carter certainly provides that and in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft they add him.
Jalen Carter was a part of an interior defensive line rotation that included Jordan Davis (13th pick in 2022) and Devante Wyatt (28th pick in 2022) and he could top both of those draft slots this year.
Adding him to the Eagles interior defensive line rotation would be scary for opposing offenses as he is a dominant force on the Bulldogs defensive line. He’s simply impossible for offensive lines to handle one vs one in both the pass and run game.
Carter’s strength and ability to win leverage battles is top notch, if he gets his hands on a lineman they’re going to end up where he wants them to go. He wins a lot of reps with that strength and power but he can also win with quickness as well.
Carter is easily one of the top players in this draft class and is pretty much guaranteed to hear his name called in the top ten in April’s draft.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars: Peter Skoronski, OT, Northwestern
This offensive tackle class isn’t quite as strong as past years. However, there are still some top ten worthy picks and Peter Skoronski has emerged as one of those as he goes fifth overall to the Jaguars in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft.
He possesses the physical abilities to be a very good offensive tackle at the next level. He has the athleticism as he can stay with speed rushers and good strength as once he gets his hands on edge rushers he completely stalls the pass rush.
Perhaps the biggest selling point to his game is his technical ability, especially in pass protection. He does an excellent job of staying in front of edge rushers and setting a powerful base to prevent edge rushers from creating any push.
This is backed up by his pass protection numbers as he has been an absolute monster for Northwestern allowing just five pressures in ten games. His play this season and overall at Northwestern gives him a pretty compelling case to be the top offensive tackle off the board in this draft class.
