The third-round pick at offensive tackle, Abraham Lucas, has gotten recent praise for his contributions to the Seahawks offensive line. At this time, the Washington State alum looks like one of the biggest steals from the 2022 NFL Draft.

The Seattle Seahawks entered the offseason looking for a quick rebuild. After going through setbacks since the 2021 season, when they posted a disappointing 7-10 record, the team’s offensive line ranked near the top of the biggest needs list.

It is no secret that the Seahawks struggled mightily to protect their former franchise quarterback Russell Wilson. Numerous times he expressed his frustrations over the offensive line during his last years with the team.

The trade of Wilson reset the contending window in Seattle, giving a perfect opportunity to the newcomers of the Seahawks’ offensive line. Due to several snaps becoming available this offseason, the front office looked to overhaul the unit with their bevy of draft picks. With that said, the Seahawks third-round rookie out of Washington State, Abraham Lucas, has gotten praise from fans and critics over his latest performances at right tackle.

Starting on the right side of the offensive line, it comes as no surprise that someone like Abraham Lucas caught the attention of the Seahawks franchise, considering his decorated accomplishments in college. Abraham Lucas was named to the 2021 All-Pac-12 first-team and earned second-team All-Pac-12 from 2018 to 2020.

Lucas was a top prospect to be chosen during the 2022 NFL Draft, holding an impressive Pro Football Focus pass blocking grade of +91 while playing 2,195 pass-blocking snaps at Washington State. General manager John Schneider clearly believed that someone like Lucas could bring his talents to help rebuild the Seahawks as a prominent team once again.

Since the start of this season, Abraham Lucas has gotten many compliments over his recent performances by massively contributing to Seahawks offensive line. That says a lot, as part of the praise he has received stems from allowing Geno Smith to get the protection he needs to perform well in his starting role.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll stated via Sports Illustrated that the quarterback coverage has noticeably improved over the past few years, giving credit to his rookie offensive linemen. As the Seahawks are currently leading the NFC West, it appears that Abraham Lucas is already making an instant impact by helping the Seahawk’s offense run through their opponents, while also keeping the QB clean on drop backs.

Abraham Lucas has also gotten praise from top football critics around the league. Among the many examples is from Brady Henderson of ESPN, who regarded him, and fellow rookie offensive lineman Charles Cross, among the most impressive 2022 NFL Draft rookies that came out of the Seahawks’ rookie class this season.
