2023 NFL Mock Draft: Panthers, Lions Find New Signal-Callers
17. Chicago Bears: Peter Skoronski, OT, Northwestern
It was nice to see some fight in the Chicago Bears on Sunday, putting together a near-comeback against the Vikings. Justin Fields looked a bit better distributing the rock and taking shots while also making plays with his legs. But, with a couple reps of absolute messes in pass protection, things need to get better up front. Peter Skoronski has the football IQ, anchor, and footwork to handle things in pass protection. If the arm length isn’t for NFL teams, he falls. As of now, though, try him at tackle.
18. Indianapolis Colts: Olu Fashanu, OT, Penn State
The Indianapolis Colts are also a mess along their offensive line. Bernhard Raimann will have a chance to figure it out, but Matt Pryor doesn’t have it. Olu Fashanu has been absolutely masterful in pass protection this season, and his footwork and hands work together so well. He needs to become better getting linear as a run blocker, but Fashanu is right there with Johnson as the best pass blocker in the class.
19. Miami Dolphins (via SF): Jaelyn Duncan, OT, Maryland
The run on tackles continues in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft, as the Dolphins can’t keep trotting out either Greg Little or Austin Jackson at right tackle. In an offense that can get linemen on the move, Jaelyn Duncan would thrive in space. He’s also got the athleticism to mirror rushers in pass protection.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Emmanuel Forbes, CB, Mississippi State
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven’t been the offensive juggernaut we’re used to, and part of that falls on the interior of the offensive line. Addressing the guard position isn’t often a first-round task, so let’s look elsewhere, assuming now that Tom Brady returns. Emmanuel Forbes isn’t the biggest corner, but his length will be huge in man coverage and he has impressive catch point prowess.
