The Philadelphia Eagles have enjoyed great success early in the 2022 season, and they’re set up incredibly well beyond just this year.

The last undefeated team in the NFL is, as everyone predicted, the Philadelphia Eagles. The hot start has landed them as the current NFC favorites, and it’s easy to see why. The rest of the NFC has major questions across the board, while the Eagles are proving they can win in different ways.

Jalen Hurts has taken impressive steps forward so far this year, especially giving his playmakers chances on shot plays and thriving with middle of the field throws. The running game is great with Hurts at the helm, RPOs are working, and his threat to run gives the Eagles the full toolbox when he’s under center. The defense has two stud corners, linebackers that are doing enough, and are a nightmare when they are in bear fronts with Jordan Davis at nose tackle. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson was a great add too.

This success is very enjoyable to watch, and what’s even better is how well the Eagles are set up for the future. Back in the spring, if you remember, the Eagles made two major moves before and during the 2022 NFL Draft. They traded one of their first-rounders to the Saints for an extra first in 2023. Then, they moved another first for a proven receiver in A.J. Brown. Brown is now third in the league in yardage, and the Saints are in a position to give the Eagles a top five selection.

What this does is give the Philadelphia Eagles a plethora of avenues to potentially explore next season. It seems extremely unlikely now, but what if Hurts has plateaued, and crashes and burns in big moments or in the postseason? A potential top five (or 10) selection plus a second one gives them an opportunity to move up for a quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft should they want to go that route. Otherwise, the Eagles can do what they do best: capitalize on what looks like a very good defensive line class and get someone like Will Anderson in the top five. Not a fan of Miles Sanders? Bijan Robinson might be sitting there in the first round waiting to create an offensive juggernaut.

The Philadelphia Eagles have quickly reloaded and are potentially trending to reach a Super Bowl after everything felt bleak with a Carson Wentz and Doug Pederson exit. Instead, the Jalen Hurts selection was a brilliant stroke by Howie Roseman and the scouting department, and the A.J. Brown/Devonta Smith duo is huge. Everything is going well in the building and on the field, and they’re set up for future success with the moves made back in April.
