2023 NFL Mock Draft: A Shocking Run on QBs, Four Georgia Bulldogs, and Many More Surprises
By Hunter Haas
13. Seattle Seahawks (via DEN) – Jaren Hall, QB, BYU
Geno Smith has been cooking after taking over for Russell Wilson, but not enough for the Seahawks to pass on a quarterback that fits everything they stand for. Jaren Hall has some obvious similarities to Wilson and he should come in and start for a roster that is not as bad as most people assume. A lot of rookie deals and a breakout QB were the main ingredients for the Legion of Boom; could part two be on the way?
14. Seattle Seahawks – Myles Murphy, EDGE, Clemson
Similar to his aforementioned Clemson teammate, Myles Murphy possesses superstar potential. He bends the edge as well as Anderson Jr. but lacks the consistency on a snap-to-snap basis. With the Seahawks, he won’t be rushed and can develop organically in a culture that is known for getting the most out of its talent. Heck of a haul for Seattle in the first round of the mock draft.
15. Los Angeles Chargers – Jordan Addison, WR, USC
The Los Angeles Chargers have Keenan Allen and Mike Williams in tow but there’s a lack of big play ability that leaves more to be desired. USC’s top wide receiver Jordan Addison is on his way to a second straight Biletnikoff Award, given to the best WR in college football. He can contribute to the offense instantly with his proficient route running and serve as the long-term replacement for the veteran Allen.
16. Arizona Cardinals – Isaiah Foskey, EDGE, Notre Dame
Notre Dame’s Isaiah Foskey looks like an NFL pass rusher on tape. He’s got a frame that will hold up well over a full 17-game schedule and a skillset that makes him the best pass rusher on the Arizona Cardinals from the moment he’s drafted. No disrespect to JJ Watt, but he’s up there in age and the Red Birds have sorely missed Chandler Jones this season.
17. New York Jets – Trenton Simpson, LB, Clemson
The New York Jets were crowned the winner of the 2022 NFL Draft by myself, and many others. Their rookie class has performed well already, and here they are able to add a jack-of-all-trades type of defender. Clemson’s Trenton Simpson is a freaky athlete that fares well in coverage and has untapped potential as a pass rusher. He could be the final piece to Robert Saleh’s burgeoning defense.
