Green Bay Packers: Romeo Doubs The Star Of Camp So Far

The Green Bay Packers were loaded with capital in the 2022 NFL Draft, and the rookie standing out so far is none other than Romeo Doubs.

Training camp for the Green Bay Packers had plenty of intrigue when it started a couple weeks ago. While some eyes stayed on the potential that the defense had as a unit, others wanted to get a first look at the wide receiver position due to the departure of Davante Adams.

The potential storylines were wide-ranging. Could Allen Lazard be the WR1? Would Christian Watson, albeit a little raw as a player, take those reigns early? Is year two the year for Amari Rodgers?

All of those have been subdued by the play of Romeo Doubs. The fourth-round pick out of Nevada has jumped out in nearly every practice, making either a jaw-dropping play or consistently proving he can win versus defensive backs in 1-on-1 drills and team drills.

Doubs, a senior in 2021 with the Wolfpack, had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons leading up to the 2022 NFL Draft. That production came in a variety of ways, from winning deep down the field as a vertical threat to winning underneath and creating after the catch. His pre-draft process didn’t help him too much, as he struggled versus press at the Senior Bowl and didn’t post enough data to be recorded in RAS.

Still, the production and talent were enough for Romeo Doubs to be drafted in the fourth round by the Packers, and he’s surpassed expectations thus far. Aaron Rodgers has spoken highly of him so far, and he’s excelling in some reps against press and winning at the catch point by staying aggressive, something that could’ve used improvement from his time in college.

Standing out in camp is great, and that goes a long way, especially building trust with Rodgers. Now, eyes will be on Doubs in the preseason to see if he can back up these good practices (Friday vs. the 49ers on NFL Network). If he passes that test, there’s a chance that he has a greater role than expected in his first year with the Green Bay Packers.
