What a crazy NFL free agency period for wide receivers. There are still a handful of players on the market that can be difference makers in 2022. Let’s take a look at the four best options that are still available to be signed.

TY Hilton (Age: 32)

It is far from a hot take to say that TY Hilton’s best days as an NFL wide receiver are in the rear view mirror. During his first seven professional campaigns (2012-2018), Hilton eclipsed 861 receiving yards each time. Much to Hilton’s dismay, Andrew Luck announced his retirement from the league heading into the 2019 season. This has led to a carousel of quarterbacks at the position in Indianapolis, as Hilton would go on to catch passes from Jacoby Brissett, Philip Rivers, and Carson Wentz the following three seasons. Hilton did not reach the 861 yard plateau even once since Luck’s retirement. We cannot just blame the uncertainty at quarterback, though.

NFL Free Agency: Destinations for Four Remaining Free Agent Wide Receivers

After missing only four games in this career, Hilton has been absent for 14 of them since 2019. Injuries, up-and-down quarterback play, and deteriorating athleticism all play a part in the decline. Still, Hilton has droves of experience and is a great mentor for younger wide receivers that are still finding their way in the NFL. If he’s able to remain healthy, and find a strong repertoire with a quarterback, Hilton will still be able to contribute on field as well. He is far removed from being a WR1, but at his price tag, he is a very strong WR3 option for contenders and rebuilding teams alike.

Teams that make sense: Colts, Ravens, Bills, Cardinals, Chargers

My pick: Indianapolis Colts

TY Hilton’s most likely destination is the one that he’s known his entire career: the Indianapolis Colts. With Matt Ryan at the helm, Hilton will benefit greatly by the uptick in accuracy that Matty Ice brings with him. One last rodeo for the Ghost.
