Treylon Burks has already received some negative news early in his Titans tenure, but let’s pump the brakes on the 2022 NFL Draft first rounder.

We’ve reached the point on the NFL calendar where we start hearing the rumblings. The “best shape of his life”, “ready to take the next step”, and “uh oh he’s struggling” part of the offseason. We aren’t even in camp yet, and that’s taken hold in the social sphere and writing scene.

Unfortunately, Tennessee Titans first round pick Treylon Burks has seen the brunt of the early headlines in a negative light. It started with a clip of him running with the bands providing resistance, where he looked a bit out of shape. Then, the reports came in to start confirming that. Now, it’s a situation with asthma.

It’s hard to know what is true, but ultimately, that would be a bad sign…if games were being played this coming week. It is still late June, and with training camp still around a month away, there’s plenty of time for Burks, a top 20 pick in April’s NFL Draft, to get in shape and ready to roll.

We’ve done this before. Last summer, Ja’Marr Chase talked about the difference in seeing an NFL football versus a college football, and was dealing with drop issues in camp and the preseason. Guess what? He turned out fine to the tune of 1,455 yards, 13 touchdowns, and an offensive rookie of the year.

This isn’t saying that Treylon Burks will eclipse that mark in his rookie season, even with AJ Brown out the door. It’s still a run-first offense built around Derrick Henry. But, it doesn’t mean we’re crowning Burks as a “bust” this early. It’s ludicrous. The production in the SEC speaks for itself (3.9 YPRR, over 1,100 yards) and his size and speed can be molded into a complete player.

Wait until the games are played before the snap judgments. It’s hard to stay away from these nuggets because we’re starved for football, but let’s slow the roll on Burks this early.
