The Los Angeles Chargers were just minutes away from making it to the wildcard round last season. Knowing how close they were only to come up a bit short, intensifies the “win now” mentality. So far that has been shown through free-agency.  Much like the rest of the AFC West, the Chargers had already had a busy off-season picking up elite defenders Khalil Mack and J.C. Jackson. Though these were huge additions, the Chargers looked to add additional fire-power on both sides of the ball. Most notably, the Bolts were in need of a play-making wide receiver and a consistent defensive back.

Best Selection: Zion Johnson

Unfortunately for the Chargers, none of the high-quality receivers or defensive backs fell to them with the 17th pick, so they did the next best thing. They drafted the best interior offensive lineman in the draft. Zion Johnson only continued to get better throughout his career at Boston College. Turning on his tape, the 6’3” 316 pounder plays with tremendous pad level and fluidity that translate to elite guard play at the NFL level. Johnson’s ceiling is somewhere between All-Pro and Pro Bowler with his floor being a long-time starter for the Chargers.
