Round 1, Pick 10

After beginning their 2022 NFL Draft class with a defensive playmaker, the New York Jets were on the clock again six picks later to take a one on the offensive side of the ball with the selection of wide receiver Garrett Wilson at tenth overall.

The former Ohio State standout spent three seasons with the Buckeyes where he would finish his career with over 2,000 yards and 23 touchdowns. His run after the catch ability set him apart from the pack in this wide receiver class, as he felt liable to take it to the house every time he touched the football in college.

Adding a talent like Garrett Wilson to a thin New York Jets receiver room will only help their young quarterback with the same surname. This was a no-brainer and absolutely the right pick in this spot.

Round 1, Pick 26 (Traded Titans 35, 69 & 163 for 26 and 101)

Arguably the steal of the entire 2022 NFL Draft, the New York Jets graciously stopped Jermaine Johnson’s confusing free fall by making an aggressive move to trade up nine picks to take Johnson at 26th overall. There were many that predicted Jermaine Johnson would go to the Jets with their tenth pick, and even some who thought he could be a surprise at four, which is why the value of this selection makes it such a home run.

Jermaine Johnson is coming off a dominant senior season at Florida State. The 2021 ACC Defensive Player of the Year had 12 sacks and 17.5 tackles for a loss while showing he has a bag of tricks to get after the passer, including a twitchy spin move that I expect to see early and often during his rookie season.

Johnson rounded out a stellar first-round for the New York Jets, as each pick is set to make an immediate impact for the team.
