Packers (11 picks):

1:22 – Quay Walker, LB, Georgia

1:28 – Devonte Wyatt, DL, Georgia

2:02 – Christian Watson, WR, North Dakota St.

3:28 – Sean Rhyan, OL, UCLA

4:27 – Romeo Doubs, WR, Nevada

4:35 – Zach Tom, OL, Wake Forest

5:36 – Kingsley Enagbare, EDGE, South Carolina

7:07 – Tariq Carpenter, S/LB, Georgia Tech

7:13 – Jonathan Ford, DT, Miami

7:28 – Rasheed Walker, OT, Penn State

7:37 – Samori Toure, WR, Nebraska

After an unprecedented run of wide receivers came off the board before pick 22, the Packers were left with the decision of taking the sixth wide receiver or the top option at a different position. As you know by now, they chose the latter. Quay Walker was the top linebacker on Green Bay’s board, and according to a number of reports, they were not the only ones. In an article that I published earlier in the offseason, I compared Walker to current Packers linebacker De’Vondre Campbell.

Now they are teammates. Walker is built like a prototypical linebacker and is more athletic than many of his counterparts. He is not a master of any one skill, but he does everything well and still has so much room to grow.

Their second pick of the first round was also not a wide receiver (gasp). Devonte Wyatt, former Georgia teammate of Quay Walker, was taken at No. 28 overall. Wyatt fits the style and scheme to a t, and will help provide constant pressure on a defensive line that features Kenny Clark and Rashan Gary.

They then traded up in round two to finally address the hole at wide receiver vacated by Davante Adams. Christian Watson did not play against high level competition in college, but he more than held his own at the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine. Standing at nearly 6’4 and possessing 4.3 speed, I expect Watson to become a thorn in the side of defensive coordinators everywhere. Sean Rhyan and Zach Tom both got starter grades from me and I was stunned to see Kingsley Enagbare/Rasheed Walker last as long as they did. I love this draft for Green Bay, even if it wasn’t as flashy as all the mock drafts wanted it to be.
