2022 NFL Draft: Grading Every Team’s 2022 NFL Draft Haul
By Hunter Haas
Eagles (5 picks):
1:13 – Jordan Davis, DT, Georgia
2:19 – Cam Jurgens, Center, Nebraska
3:19 – Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia
6:02 – Kyron Johnson, EDGE, Kansas
6:20 – Grant Calcaterra, TE, SMU
The Philadelphia Eagles have improved as much as any NFC team this offseason. They filled nearly every need on the roster via free agency, giving them a freedom to add the best talent regardless of position.
With Fletcher Cox only signed on for one more season, it makes a lot of a sense for the Eagles to bring in the dominating presence — Jordan Davis. Davis was the key cog in the middle of one of the best defenses in college football history and went on to test like a unicorn at the NFL Combine. Even if he fails to remain at peak condition, Davis has a long career ahead of him as an elite early down player.
I’m trying not to factor trades into this grade too much, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the AJ Brown blockbuster deal. Howie Roseman elected to add an established talent at wide receiver, after spending a first-round pick in each of the previous two drafts.
The athletic Cam Jurgens profiles as an ideal replacement for Jason Kelce at center and do not even get me started on Nakobe Dean. Considering that the Eagles have been desperate for quality linebacker play, they could not have mapped it out better. The medicals are a valid concern, but not valid enough to let the playmaking linebacker fall as far as he did.
I have zero doubts that he will go down as one of the steals of the 2022 NFL Draft. Only bringing in five players hurts the class when comparing to the deeper classes, but I can’t imagine Eagles fans would change a thing.
