The Minnesota Vikings sent shockwaves around Las Vegas when they let divisional rival, the Detroit Lions, leap all the way up to No. 12 overall to draft Jameson Williams. I like the premise of trading back, but felt the execution left a little to be desired.
Still, they salvaged it by making some great picks. Not only did they add to their draft capital in the 2022 NFL Draft, they also came away with two players that could have went in the middle of round one. Bringing in Lewis Cine after dropping all the way back to No. 32 overall was a great move. The other move I loved was the Andrew Booth Jr. selection. In my final mock draft, I said that Booth-Vikings was one of my favorite potential pairings. Due to medical concerns, they were able to add him in round two, which will look even better the healthier Booth gets.
Ed Ingram and Brian Asamoah will be starters for the franchise, and Akayleb Evans will look to follow the same path that Cameron Dantzler did after being selected by the Vikings in the 2021 NFL Draft. The fact that they allowed a division rival to land a premium talent is not enough to outweigh the class they put together, resulting in a middle-of-the-pack grade.
Grade: B-
