This is a 2022 NFL Draft class that I have dreaded grading. I like so many of these players as prospects, but how early some of them went left me scratching my head. I have no doubts that Cole Strange is going to be a solid player in New England. Although it was a reach, I’m not as critical about that selection.

Even the Tyquan Thornton pick, I can at least see the vision. However, Thornton was ranked outside of the Top-150 prospects in consensus rankings. I could be underselling the amount of interest that Thornton had, but I have reason to believe the speedy wide receiver would have still been around later into the draft. But hey, I’ll never knock a franchise too much for having the gumption to get their guy at all costs.

One thing I feel very comfortable saying, is that Marcus Jones will be a superstar in the slot for the Patriots. Jack Jones has starter potential on the outside and Pierre Strong Jr. flashed bellcow traits in college. I’m not sure why they would spend a fourth-round pick on a backup quarterback, though. This draft class is all over the place. I believe in New England to develop these guys, but as of today, I have to grade it as I see it, which is right around average.
