The Chicago Bears snagged their quarterback of the future in the 2021 NFL Draft, trading a future first to the New York Giants in order to come up to No. 11 overall and select the Ohio State quarterback, Justin Fields. Fields would have been far-and-away the best prospect available in this years’ draft, so it is impossible to regret the decision. Still, that pick ended up being the No. 7 overall selection in 2022, and the Bears first pick didn’t come until No. 39 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The first half of their class is quite promising. Kyler Gordon, Jaquan Brisker, Velus Jones Jr., and Dominique Robinson all project as future starters at the next level. Gordon and Brisker specifically have the chance to elevate Chicago’s secondary immensely. The second half of the class is compiled of a bunch of dart throws at best. The major question I’m left with is: where is the help for Justin Fields? Surely they won’t rely on a bunch of fifth, sixth, and seventh rounders to protect their prized investment, right? Right?
