Seattle sneaks back into the end of the first round to get a new starting quarterback

The Seattle Seahawks have had an extremely confusing offseason so far. Despite trading Russell Wilson away to the Denver Broncos, they believe they are trying to win right now rather than rebuild. Their offseason signings of Quandre Diggs and Uchenna Nwosu installed the belief that the Seahawks want to win right now. This will be very difficult when Drew Lock is the team’s projected starter. Seattle is rumored to be a team to possibly sneak into the end of the first round and draft a quarterback to have their fifth-year option.

One quarterback that makes a lot of sense for the Seahawks in the 2022 NFL Draft is Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral. He fits the athletic profile that Pete Carroll likes his quarterbacks to have. Corral also is one of the safer quarterback prospects in this weak quarterback class. The Seahawks’ last selection from Ole Miss ended up being Pro Bowl wide receiver D.K. Metcalf. So they shouldn’t be afraid to go back to that program to add another impactful offensive player. Head coach Pete Carroll also has connections to Ole Miss through their head coach Lane Kiffin whose father coached with Carroll in the past.

Corral would have a legitimate chance at beating out Drew Lock for the Seahawks’ starting quarterback job in camp. Getting a fifth-year option on a potential franchise quarterback would be huge for this team’s timeline to rebuild into a potential contender in an extremely talented NFC West.

Seattle would have to pair their first second-round pick which is 40th overall with a 2023 third-round pick to get the 30th overall pick for Kansas City. The Chiefs likely would not want another draft pick in the 2022 NFL draft because they already have 12 selections and eight picks in the first four rounds.

Kansas City could use Seattle’s 40th overall pick on Washington cornerback Kyler Gordon. He could be the Chiefs’ target with the 30th overall pick. However, there is a better than solid chance he is still there at 40. If that is the case this would be an outstanding deal for the Chiefs to land a future Day 2 pick and land the player they’d likely select in the first round. Gordon has the tools to be a very good starting cornerback in the NFL. He just needs to get drafted to a team with a coaching staff that will help him grow as a player.
