Green Bay Packers 7-Round 2022 Mock Draft: No WR In Round 1?
Round 2, 53rd Overall: Alec Pierce, WR, Cincinnati
Ah, finally! The Green Bay Packers select a receiver, getting some good value in the second round. It wasn’t stated until earlier today, but the Packers are among several teams that have interest in Cincinnati receiver Alec Pierce. He fits everything the Packers look for at the position (size, athleticism, blocking ability).
Pierce works extremely well on the vertical route tree, with impressive quickness and acceleration at the line of scrimmage. The twitch in his releases make things difficult for defenders, and his quick acceleration into his stem allows him to stack and separate with speed. He’s a dynamo at the catch point, working to elevate and secure the football. He doesn’t offer a ton after the catch, but the straight line speed shows up. Having Pierce and Allen Lazard with size is what the Packers need.
Round 2, 59th Overall: John Metchie III, WR, Alabama
Now, grab the technician here late in the second round. John Metchie III is still getting underrated in draft circles. The ACL tear certainly didn’t help that, but he’s been a productive receiver even consistently competing for targets with first round Alabama talent at receiver.
What stands out with Metchie is the technical aspect of his game and the short area burst. Metchie’s release game is fantastic, and he consistently created separation against SEC corners. His twitch and deception are among the best in the class, and he has impressive short area burst and lateral quickness after the catch. If the knee is looking good, Metchie is an instant-impact receiver.
