Utah. player. Scouting Report. Linebacker. Devin Lloyd. 21. 47. Pick Analysis

In what seems like another perfect match, the New England Patriots are able to grab a very versatile linebacker in Utah’s Devin Lloyd. Lloyd is an impressive athlete who can do a little bit of everything for a team that will certainly be in need of a dynamic linebacker moving forward.

Bill Belichick’s defense is waning away a bit. There aren’t a ton of recognizable names on the depth chart, and those that are, are getting up in age a bit. Particularly at linebacker, the Patriots moved on from both Donta Hightower and Jamie Collins, leaving a hole, even after trading for Mack Wilson with the Cleveland Browns.

Lloyd is cut from the Micah Parsons role when it comes to skillset. He can roam sideline-to-sideline when off-the-ball in the run game, can hold his own in coverage, and excels when rushing the passer, particularly as a blitzer for Lloyd. I’m not saying Lloyd would be nearly as effective as a rookie as Parsons was, but the Patriots would hope that he has similar upside that could come to fruition sooner than later.

Wide Receiver. Chris Olave. 22. 49. Scouting Report. Ohio State. player. Pick Analysis

The Kansas City Chiefs made a big trade up to get a new receiver to replace their traded superstar. For the Green Bay Packers, they get lucky and have one fall right into their lap. While Chris Olave is certainly no Davante Adams, he is a smooth route runner with impressive speed.

Olave isn’t quite the burner that Jameson Williams is, but he showed at the Combine that he does have game-breaking speed as well. Olave may be my favorite route runner in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft, getting in and out of his breaks as smooth as butter. He will immediately become a favorite target of Aaron Rodgers and was an easy pick here for me.

32. Cornerback. Pick Analysis. Washington. Trent McDuffie. 23. player. Scouting Report

Cornerback seems to be a glaring need, in my opinion, for the Arizona Cardinals. Patrick Peterson isn’t walking through that door, and although Byron Murphy has developed into a solid corner, they still need some help beside of him.

Like Murphy, Trent McDuffie is a former Washington Huskies corner who brings a lot to the table at the cornerback position. He is very effective in both man and zone coverage, and is an excellent tackler for a defensive back. McDuffie’s arm length could cause him to fall a bit, but the Cardinals could get a steal at this point in the 2022 NFL Mock Draft.

Arkansas. 24. Pick Analysis. Treylon Burks. player. 123. Scouting Report. Wide Receiver

After trading away Amari Cooper, the Dallas Cowboys really need to add a wide receiver in some capacity. CeeDee Lamb will get a real chance to be the primary target in the offense, but with Michael Gallup likely to miss some games to start the season, Dallas is left with James Washington, Noah Brown, T.J. Vasher and Simi Fehoko behind Lamb.

Treylon Burks has a similar skillset to CeeDee Lamb, as a dynamic weapon with the ball in his hands. Whether it is screens, drags, quick slants, handoffs… just get the ball in his hands and he will do the rest. He also excels in jump ball scenarios, with impressive athleticism and great hands.

Burks did not test well leading up to the draft and isn’t the route runner that Cooper is, but Treylon Burks is one of the most dynamic weapons in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft and would be super fun to watch alongside CeeDee Lamb with Dak Prescott in the Cowboys offense.

Clemson. 16. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Cornerback. 25. player. Andrew Booth Jr.

Tre’Davious White is one of the most talented young cornerbacks in the league. However, after he was injured last season, the Buffalo Bills secondary was exposed by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs.

Even with White returning, and with Taron Johnson developing into one of the better nickel corners in the league, Sean McDermott’s defense really could use another lockdown outside corner to fend off the high-powered offenses in the AFC.

Andrew Booth Jr. is just that to me. He has the length and athleticism to lock down his receiver, and is a bit of a steal at this point in the draft. I think he is the third best corner in this draft behind Stingley and Gardner and is a legitimate cover corner that will help the Bills immensely.

Quarterback. Desmond Ridder. 26. 36. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Cincinnati. player

Another quarterback trade! As I mentioned at pick nine, I think it would wise for the Seattle Seahawks to address their offensive line early if a top prospect is there, THEN go take a flier on a quarterback.

In this 2022 NFL Mock Draft, the Seahawks take a chance on Desmond Ridder from Cincinnati. Like all the others in this draft, Ridder is far from a perfect prospect. His accuracy was wildly inconsistent for me when watching the tape, but he does have a huge arm and is a very effective runner. He has the size that you typically look for in a quarterback and seems to have a good understanding of the offense and reading defenses.
