Detroit Lions 7-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft: Round 6, Pick 217

217. player. 50. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. WR. Idaho State. Tanner Conner

Taking players with high potential but work to be done is the theme of the late rounds in the NFL Draft and that’s where Tanner Conner fits in. A track and football star at Idaho State, Conner was a successful dual-sport athlete for the Bengals. The good news is that his athletic ability is off the charts. The bad news is his football skills need some tuning.

A hurdler on the track team, Conner’s vertical and speed raise eyebrows. That’s enough to give Detroit a reason to take him considering their need for offensive playmakers. His route running needs work and his catching ability lacks confidence. This will be a project pick, but it could turn out great. If anything, he should be a lethal special teamer.

Detroit Lions 7-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft Summary

The thing this 7-round 2022 NFL Mock Draft didn’t do was showcase what could happen in trades. I’m a believer that the Lions should be active in trading down to add more assets for the future. This is going to be a lengthy rebuild and next year’s quarterback class will be better. The Lions might be smart to trade down in the first especially and gain picks to make a move for next year’s top signal caller.

What the Lions do accomplish here is building the foundation for the future. Adding a strong edge rusher will be a must as well as playmakers on both sides of the ball. If the Lions do that and still neglect quarterback, they should still see noticeable improvement in 2022.
