Seattle Seahawks 2022 NFL Mock Draft: Round 7, Pick 229

Pick Analysis. Southern A&M. Scouting Report. IOL. Ja'Tyre Carter. 7th. player. 36

The Seattle Seahawks need to protect the quarterback. Russell Wilson allowed them to turn a blind eye with his ability to make plays outside the pocket. With him now in Denver, the Seahawks need to focus on the offensive line at the forefront of this rebuild. While three additions in one draft might seem like a lot, it’s necessary.

Any seventh round pick is just a depth option with some upside and Ja’Tyre Carter will be no different. The interior of the offensive line is in much better shape for Seattle than the tackles, but adding depth to the unit would be a good move late in the draft.

Carter has the frame and strength to be a strong guard at the NFL level. He’ll still be a backup to start his career, but he has the potential to grow into a starter role down the road if needed.

Carter’s best attribute is his strength, which has allowed him to get away with a few technical things in college. To be consistent at the NFL level he will need to hone other skills and become more fundamentally sound than he currently is. Those adjustments can be made with time and as a backup he will have the opportunity to do that before it matters.
