San Francisco 49ers 7-Round Mock Draft: Secondary Help Early
Round 2, 61st Overall: Kerby Joseph, S, Illinois
The safety position might be one of question more than people think. The San Francisco 49ers got a good year out of rookie Talanoa Hufanga, but Jaquaski Tartt isn’t back and Jimmie Ward will hit free agency in 2023. It opens the door for a safety at 61 in a deeper class.
If one of the consensus top five makes it to 61, the pick is easy. After those guys, Kerby Joseph might be the next best. Joseph has very good range to play on the back end of a defense, and the ball skills to create turnovers and disrupt the catch point. He also flashed some man coverage ability down in Mobile.
Round 3, 93rd Overall: Alex Wright, EDGE, UAB
The edge class in the 2022 NFL Draft looks really tempting, and the 49ers are in a great spot to take a big swing here in the third round. Alex Wright is an edge rusher with all the tools. He has the size, speed, and power to get on the field quickly in the NFL. There isn’t much depth after Dee Ford (who could be out in 2023) and Nick Bosa, and Wright has the upside to be a long-term starter.
Round 3, 105th Overall: Romeo Doubs, WR, Nevada
Who knows what will happen in the Deebo Samuel saga? If the San Francisco 49ers don’t pay up, the receiver room takes a major hit. Better to keep adding to it here in this 49ers mock draft. Romeo Doubs does very well winning vertically, runs crisp underneath routes, has natural hands, and good short area burst after the catch.
