Round 1, 31st Overall: Kyler Gordon, CB, Washington

One thing is for certain in the 2022 NFL Draft. There will be several surprises, which could lead a very good player falling into the laps of the Cincinnati Bengals that isn’t expected. The corner class in the 2022 NFL Draft is a very good one, especially at the top and on day two.

Kyler Gordon would be a great get for the Bengals at pick 31. Many thought Gordon would rise into becoming a clear first round selection because of his expected testing at the scouting combine. He didn’t live up to the ridiculously high expectations, so round one is no longer a guarantee.

Even without the phenomenal testing, Gordon is a very good player. He’s got extremely light feet, and is quick to transition vertically or back downhill in man coverage. Gordon had a very good season with ball production in 2021, has impressive closing speed, and is a scheme versatile player who can sit in zone coverage or handle top receivers in man.

The Cincinnati Bengals only have two corners under contract past 2022, one of whom is Mike Hilton, who has the slot locked down. Gordon would slide in and start immediately to help out the secondary that has to deal with a loaded AFC.
