2022 NFL Mock Draft: Second Round
The Bears are in a precarious position, to say the least. They are in the midst of a pseudo rebuild/retool process. It is clear the new regime does not want to “punt” the upcoming season away, but are still keeping their eye towards the future. Andrew Booth’s injury is serious enough to potentially push him out of round one, but not serious enough for the Bears to pass on his talent if he’s still available. Booth with star cornerback Jaylon Johnson is something to get excited about in Chicago.
The Browns could use a big body in the middle that is capable of playing a number of different techniques inside, and they land one in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft. Senior Bowl MVP and former Oklahoma Sooner, Perrion Winfrey, is an ideal fit for the defense. Winfrey is a disrupter and brings an intensity to the unit that was lacking at times in 2021. With Deshaun Watson in tow, wide receiver can be addressed later on in the draft. You won’t find another Perrion Winfrey in rounds 3-7.
After trading down from No. 42 overall, the Colts run to the podium to announce Abraham Lucas’ name. The team is without a long-term solution at left tackle (unless you believe in Matt Pryor THAT much), and Lucas checks all the boxes that general manager Chris Ballard looks for in an offensive tackle. Adding an extra third-round pick and still securing a left tackle with such a high upside is a home-run for Indianapolis in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft.
The 49ers signed Charvarius Ward away from the Chiefs, giving the cornerback a three-year deal worth up to $40 million. Although Ambry Thomas shows promise, as does Emmanuel Moseley, it would make sense for San Francisco to add one more high-quality player to the mix. That player is Marcus Jones. Jones is best suited in a slot corner role, but considering he has the potential to be the best in the league at said position — and replace the departing K’Waun Williams in the process — the value is great at No. 61 overall.
Travis Jones being available at the last pick of the second round may not happen, but if it does, the Broncos should add him to their defensive line group in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft. Sure, they brought over DJ Jones from San Francisco to man the middle, and there are bigger holes to address on the roster. However, with five picks between 64-115, opting for a “best player available” strategy is the move.
These two would form a trio of Jones’ on the defensive line, sliding in next to Dre’Mont. Fans may groan at the pick in April, but by the time fall comes around, that will no longer be the case when they see the way that Travis Jones moves and all the different roles he can serve in Ejiro Evero’s new defensive scheme.
