The New England Patriots sit in an interesting spot at 21. Who could they target with that pick?

The New England Patriots are consistently one of the most interesting teams to follow through the NFL Draft and the 2022 NFL Draft will be no different. Bill Belichick always has a plan, but if anyone can figure it out, that’s an incredible talent. So while we might not be able to figure out his plan, we can at least pinpoint a few names who should be in the mix for consideration.

Surprisingly, the Patriots luck hasn’t been that great in the first round historically. Mac Jones looks promising, but before him the first round has been an area of struggle for New England. They didn’t have a pick in 2020 and N’Keal Harry from 2019 hasn’t produced much. Sony Michel from 2018 isn’t even on the team after having little impact when he was on the roster.

Now, they haven’t all fallen short. The 2018 NFL Draft also gave New England Isaiah Wynn who is projected to be their starting left tackle this coming season. However, the one similarity between all the picks just mentioned? They’re all on offense.

The last time the New England Patriots went defense in the first round was the 2015 NFL Draft when they took a fourth straight defensive player in the first round. That streak of offense could very well end this year.

5 First Round Targets For The New England Patriots With The 21st Pick In The 2022 NFL Draft

The Patriots have been active this offseason with additions on both sides of the ball. Jabrill Peppers and Malcolm Butler headline the defensive additions while DeVante Parker and Ty Montgomery are the most notable on the offensive side. Now, what holes still remain will most likely need to be addressed during the 2022 NFL Draft. Being closer to the middle round of the first round than they are used to, the Patriots will have the chance to add a big time playmaker right away to tis new-look New England squad.
