Green Bay Packers: First Round Targets In The 2022 NFL Draft
Who could the Green Bay Packers target with their two first round selections in the 2022 NFL Draft?
The Green Bay Packers were a major part of the crazy 2022 offseason. It, of course, started with speculation of Aaron Rodgers returning or getting traded. After he decided on a return and signed a major deal, the Packers got to work. They extended Preston Smith, and signed both De’Vondre Campbell and Rasul Douglas, both of whom were key cogs in a good Packers defense in 2021.
Then, major news dropped that shook Packer land, with Davante Adams getting traded to the Raiders for picks 22 and 53 in the 2022 NFL Draft. Adams had decided he wouldn’t play under the franchise tag, and ultimately wanted to go to Vegas to be closer to family and play with Derek Carr.
Green Bay Packers 2022 NFL Draft Targets: Round 1
The wide receiver position is one that Packers fans are heavily interested in with this year’s draft. Unfortunately, while the class looks deeper like 2020, there might not be many who end up as WR1s in the NFL. It doesn’t mean there won’t be many contributors, but betting on a top 10 player at his position in the league is a long shot.
The Packers have other needs to watch for (a third edge, a Kenny Clark running mate, offensive tackle), and all could be in play in the first round.
Thresholds To Watch
Like other teams, the Green Bay Packers have their thresholds, especially early in the draft. The average age of prospects selected in round one in the Brian Gutekunst era comes out to 21.56 years old. Also, the premium positions are often the focus. Corner has been a pick twice, with safety, edge rusher, and quarterback the others.
Now, it’s a small sample size, and two first round picks could change that, but they likely won’t stray far. Let’s look at who the Packers could have on their short list in the first round.
