Cornerback Targets

This might be wild to bring it up. Yes, the Los Angeles Chargers invested heavily in corner this offseason with Jackson, and did draft Asante Samuel Jr. in the second round of the 2020 draft, but Staley has talked about never having enough corners. Also, if the rumor about not being sold on Michael Davis is true, corner is in play, especially with a lack of early selections.

Derek Stingley Jr.

I brought this up last week, but Staley and company were down at LSU for their pro day, which featured uber-talented corner Derek Stingley Jr. Stingley’s impressive pro day likely means he goes in the top 10. However, don’t rule out a move up. The Falcons could be the trade partner in this scenario so LA can jump Seattle.

Stingley had a dominant freshman season (six INTs, 15 passes defensed) and has lockdown corner upside. His ball skills, patience, technique and functional athleticism make for a great man-cover guy, but he can sit on the ball and be productive in the Chargers defense.

Andrew Booth Jr.

This might be the best fit. Andrew Booth Jr. is an excellent corner who thrived in off-man coverage, where he could use his impressive click and close ability, along with his eye discipline. Booth is a phenomenal tackler who sticks his nose in the run game and his ball skills are second to none in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Trent McDuffie

Maybe the Los Angeles Chargers believe that Samuel Jr. can be an outside corner, and if so, Trent McDuffie might be on the table. McDuffie does have short arms, but that won’t deter some teams. His skills in man coverage, combined with the temperament and transitional quickness, make for a great slot corner in the NFL.
