2022 NFL Mock Draft: Panthers, Steelers, Lions All Take QBs In Round 1
By Evan Bachman
15. Philadelphia Eagles: Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah
The Eagles added Kyzir White to their linebacker group this offseason, so linebacker isn’t necessarily a big need for them, however Devin Lloyd would provide a boost to this defense. So, that’s where they go with their first of two selections in this 2022 NFL mock draft.
Lloyd has shown everything you want to see in a potential starting linebacker in the NFL. He’s consistently produced over his career at Utah as he recorded 91 tackles in 2019, was first-team all Pac-12 in 2020, and was named an All-American this season.
Lloyd has consistently performed well in all areas of playing linebacker as he can defend the run, tackle well, pressure the quarterback, and cover well. So, while he may not have the athleticism that you typically see in linebackers who usually come off the board early in the first round, he is still a very good football player.
16. New Orleans Saints: Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa
After a trade with the Eagles, the Saints now have two first round picks. It’s possible they could look to package these two picks to move into the top ten, however in this no trade 2022 NFL mock draft scenario they stand pat.
Trevor Penning has flown up draft boards after a dominant combine performance where he ran a 4.89 40 yard dash after weighing in at 6-foot-7, 325 pounds. He now looks like a lock for at least the first round and comes off the board to the Saints in this 2022 NFL mock draft.
Penning played at Northern Iowa which is FCS and immediately when watching his film it’s obvious that he is a step above his competition. He is a monster as a run blocker, he often manhandles defenders like they were high school freshmen. He also projects well as a pass protector as he moves quite well for a man of his size.
