2022 NFL Mock Draft: Panthers, Steelers, Lions All Take QBs In Round 1
By Evan Bachman
11. Washington Commanders: Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame
It may be surprising to some to see Kyle Hamilton not in the top ten of this 2022 NFL mock draft, however after his 4.59 40 time at the combine it looks like he’ll come off the board later than originally thought on draft night.
I am amongst those who believe the 40 time shouldn’t really affect Hamilton’s draft stock. If this was a “what I would do mock draft” he’d be off the board much sooner than this, however this is a predictive mock draft, so in this scenario the Commanders get a potential steal to replace Landon Collins.
Kyle Hamilton is an intriguing player that every defensive coordinator would love to have on their defense. His primary position is safety but he’s someone who lines up all over the field and makes an impact on the game in a variety of ways.
Hamilton has the physical traits with good speed, height, and length to develop into an elite safety, but what separates him from most safeties are his instincts. He simply just has a nose for the football that most players don’t have and those exceptional instincts have been on display this season as he picked off three passes in just seven games.
