Other Trade Up Options

If the New Orleans Saints want to move up, but would prefer to hold on to their other pick in the top 20, a move to 10 with the Jets or a few picks higher to the Vikings could make sense. It would likely only cost a second-rounder, and they’d still be in great position to land another impact player in the first. So, which players could the Saints be targeting here?

Charles Cross

Charles Cross is the other tackle prospect to watch in a move up. His draft stock is tumbling a bit from some late rumors, and a late mock from Bruce Feldman at The Athletic, someone who is very plugged in to the league. That fall could work perfectly for the Saints. He has some deficiencies, and the Mississippi game exposed some flaws, but his skills as a pass protector when it comes to vision, lateral quickness, and improved anchor, he can start right away.

Jameson Williams

Yes, the speed threat that the Saints have been missing could go earlier than expected, even with the recent ACL injury. Jameson Williams is “the flash” of the 2022 class. His explosion in the short area, combined with impressive separation quickness, give him a high floor to start as a “Z” type who can stretch the field. The upside, if he develops more as a route runner and especially with his release game, is tremendous.

Chris Olave

A move up for Chris Olave?! Yes, cause it has been reported that the two Ohio State receivers will come off the board early. If the New Orleans Saints want Olave, they may have to pass the Commanders and Vikings to get him. Olave is an “always open” type, with great identification of coverage, creativity in the stem, efficient route breaks, and reliable hands/tracking ability. That, combined with his easy speed to win deep, is the ultimate pick for an elite WR2/Z type.
