Atlanta Falcons 7-Round 2022 Mock Draft: Adding Size, Speed At WR
Round 3, 74th Overall: Jalen Tolbert, WR, South Alabama
The reload in at wide receiver continues here in third round. After getting explosiveness and versatility in Watson, Jalen Tolbert joins the fold here at pick 74.
Tolbert is a small-school receiver who played some productive football for South Alabama. He crossed the 1,000-yard mark as a junior and stepped it up in 2021, catching 82 passes for 1,474 yards and eight touchdowns. He may not have the game-breaking speed of Watson, but Tolbert is good on a vertical plane, making strong adjustments at the catch point and high-pointing the football well. There’s sufficient athleticism to work with to continue to develop his route tree.
Round 3, 82nd Overall: Sam Williams, EDGE, Mississippi
After getting more power and an edge-setting type, the Falcons add some explosiveness on the edge here with Sam Williams. Williams provides the wicked first step explosiveness, burst and speed around the arc, and a motor that’s nonstop, especially in pursuit. Just let him pin the ears back and get after quarterbacks.
Now, there’s a serious issue with sexual battery in 2020, in which he was suspended from the team. As an outside entity, we don’t know how big of a problem that is going forward in terms of maturity and character. That’s something teams will have to work through and figure out.
