3-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft: Jets Move Up, Steelers Trade Up For QB
After bringing back quarterback Jameis Winston and adding Andy Dalton in free agency, the New Orleans Saints need to set them up for success if they want to see their offense develop in 2022. Michael Thomas should be back this season, and adding another talented wide receiver from THE Ohio State University would certainly be a good move.
Garrett Wilson is a crisp route runner with impressive hands. Where Wilson really makes hay is with the ball in his hands. With his speed, shiftiness and toughness, he is incredibly difficult to bring down. A pairing of Thomas and Wilson would be a dream for any Saints quarterback, who will have to hope that the team addresses the left tackle position elsewhere, as the value was not here in the 2022 NFL Mock Draft.
With their final of three first-round picks in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles find a starting guard in Boston College’s Zion Johnson. Johnson is another player that really impressed at the Senior Bowl, and is a perfect fit for the Eagles offense.
As a 6-foot-3, 315 lb mauler, Johnson will perfectly fill the shoes left by the retiring Brandon Brooks at right guard. Late in the 2021 season, Philadelphia found their identity in the run game. They were running for over 100 yards a game, game after game and Johnson will slide in perfectly to open up those running lanes in 2022
Another Buckeye receiver off the board to the wide receiver-desperate Atlanta Falcons. With the suspension of Calvin Ridley and the recent departures of Julio Jones and Russell Gage, the Falcons have Olamide Zaccheaus, Damiere Byrd, Auden Tate, KhaDarel Hodge, Chad Hansen, Frank Darby and Austin Trammell on their depth chart right now. Suboptimal to say the least.
Chris Olave has been overshadowed a bit in this 2022 NFL Draft process by teammate Garrett Wilson, but he brings a lot to the table in his own right. He has impressive speed as a down-field threat and is a silky smooth route runner with great hands. He can really be a number one wide receiver for the Falcons, who have quite a few needs to fill moving forward and more chances to fill them after trading down in the first round this year and gaining a first next year.
The New England Patriots have always valued talented, versatile linebackers. Devin Lloyd fits that mold and would be a great fit for Bill Belichick’s defense going forward. He has the speed to range sideline to sideline, the athleticism to hold his own in both zone and man coverage and the physicality and technique to be an effective pass rusher when asked to do so.
Similar to the Atlanta Falcons, the Green Bay Packers have a glaring need at wide receiver. After trading away Davante Adams and signing MVP quarterback, Aaron Rodgers to a contract extension, general manager Brian Gutenkunst better get him some new weapons.
Allen Lazard is an effective deep threat, but the Packers need a solid target for every level of the field. Treylon Burks is a dynamic weapon that can beat the defense anywhere on the football field. He is super tough with the ball in his hands, has great athleticism and hands to catch jump balls on the boundary or in the red zone and has shown the breakaway speed to finish plays as a deep threat as well.
