Round 3, 86th Overall: Luke Fortner, OL, Kentucky

The Las Vegas Raiders turned heads in last year’s draft when they picked Alex Leatherwood in the first round after gutting the line during free agency. As it turns out, the best position for him in the NFL is likely guard. Even with a room that has a ton of guys on the roster for 2022, it doesn’t mean that any outside of Kolton Miller and Leatherwood should be considered a starter beyond this season.

Getting some stability on the interior makes a ton of sense. Is there enough trust in Andre James at center? Will John Simpson eventually step up? Is Denzelle Good really the long-term option? With all these questions, finding an anchor on the interior is crucial.

Enter Luke Fortner, who might not be getting a ton of buzz in the third round. However, Fortner has played all five positions along the offensive line in his time with the Kentucky Wildcats. He’s settled in nicely at center and guard, where his positional flexibility will be much-appreciated. Fortner plays with impressive control, stays active and strong in pass protection, and has great vision in picking up stunts and getting to his spot at the second level. He could start right away in Vegas.
