New York Jets: Top Positional Needs Ahead Of The 2022 NFL Draft
The New York Jets will look to the 2022 NFL Draft to address several key positions of need.
The New York Jets first season under the tutelage of Robert Saleh was full of growing pains, as the team managed just a 4-13 record in 2021. Saleh’s defense struggled mightily on all three levels, allowing a league-high 29.6 points and nearly 400 yards per game to opposing teams. Unfortunately for Jets fans, the offense wasn’t much better. Zach Wilson’s rookie campaign came to an end with a league-low 69.7 QB rating (among qualified), as he received little to no help from the players around him.
With there being such glaring weaknesses on both sides of the football, the New York Jets offseason needs list is extensive. The good news is, they’ve already targeted some of them in free agency with their biggest addition being former San Francisco 49ers guard, Laken Tomlinson, who will help to add some physicality to the interior of that Jets offensive line. They’ve also restocked their tight end group with the signings of C.J. Ozumah and Tyler Conklin, and bolstered their safety position by adding D.J. Reed and Jordan Whitehead to the mix.
These moves have been a great start to the New York Jets’ offseason but there are still some major positional needs that have to be addressed as we near the 2022 NFL Draft. The team has yet to address their weak wide receiver room, so their biggest point of emphasis in the early rounds has got to be getting Zach Wilson some weapons in the passing game. They’re also desperate for playmakers on the defensive side of the ball, as the New York Jets were towards the bottom of the league in both sacks and interceptions last season.
Top Positional Needs In the 2022 NFL Draft For The New York Jets
Luckily for fans, the Jets have a ton of draft capital to invest in these areas. They have nine total picks, all within the first five rounds, and four of those come in the top 40. So with that in mind, let’s take a look at the New York Jets biggest needs ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft to get a better idea of where the team could focus once they’re on the clock.
