3-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft after Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams Trades
In what may be a surprise to many, the Houston Texans opt for dominant Georgia defensive lineman, Travon Walker, with their first pick of this 2022 NFL Mock Draft. Instead of other edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux or do-it-all safety Kyle Hamilton, general manager Nick Caserio and head coach Lovie Smith value to versatility and effectiveness of Walker.
After putting on an incredible performance at the 2022 NFL Draft Scouting Combine, Walker has shown that he as the size, strength and athleticism that team desire at the top of a 2022 NFL Mock Draft. He has been a steady riser throughout the 2022 NFL Draft process and is allegedly even more highly regarded in NFL circles than in the media.
Walker can really do it all as an edge presence. He wasn’t able to really fill up the stat sheet as part of a stacked Georgia defense, but he is super effective against the run and has all the desired traits to be an effective pass rusher from multiple spots along the defensive line.
For a team that has so many holes to fill, adding a versatile defender who can help fill a lot of them will go a long way for the development and growth of their young team and defense. His blend of size, length, strength, burst and athleticism make him a perfect prospect to mold into a very versatile and effective defender going forward for a team that is building for the future.
With edge rushers a hot commodity early in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft, the New York Jets lock up their young, dynamic player with former 2022 NFL Draft first overall pick favorite, Kayvon Thibodeaux from Oregon.
Thibodeaux really hasn’t done anything to forfeit that top-of-the-draft status, it’s just that some other guys have really made huge jumps of their own. With Thidodeaux, it may be a case of over-evaluation. As people tend to do with expected number one picks, they try to pick apart their game and see why they don’t belong at the top of the 2022 NFL Draft.
With Kayvon Thibodeaux, there really aren’t many holes in his game. He is as explosive of an athlete as you’ll see on tape coming off the edge. He has very impressive bend and athleticism around the edge with great closing speed and strength to finish plays in the backfield. Thibodeaux would be a great fit for Robert Saleh’s defense, giving him an athlete with incredible upside that can be molded into a top NFL defender for the New York Jets.
