2-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft: Quarterbacks Fly Off The Board Early
By Hunter Haas
2-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft: Five quarterbacks go in round one, the Packers get a Davante Adams replacement, multiple trades, and plenty more!
Phew… what a whirlwind the last two weeks have been in the NFL. Quarterbacks on the move included Deshaun Watson, Carson Wentz, and Russell Wilson to name a few. Veteran pass rushers Chandler Jones and Von Miller both found major paydays in free agency. Aaron Rodgers’ go-to target, Davante Adams, was shipped out to Las Vegas even after the Packers reached an agreement for Rodgers to return.
By far the busiest week in offseason history for the NFL. And the kicker? There are still some more moves that are going to be made in the coming days. Now that the Watson trade has been completed, Baker Mayfield is without a starting gig in Cleveland. Jimmy Garoppolo is still recovering from shoulder surgery, but he carries interest around the league. The Colts, Seahawks, Saints, Panthers, and maybe a couple other teams are still looking for a week one starter.
Let’s do our best to find the answer for these teams in this 2022 NFL mock draft. A few trades, multiple QBs in the top-ten, and a number of edge rushers and wide receivers going round one is just a small tease at what’s in store. Without further ado… the Jacksonville Jaguars are on the clock.
2-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft: Everyone Gets a QB
No surprise here. Aidan Hutchinson has become the consensus No.1 pick, and the moves Jacksonville has made this offseason further support that idea. First, the team franchise tagged OT Cam Robinson. Robinson isn’t the best left tackle in the league, but he is absolutely worth keeping around in 2022 in hopes that he realizes some of his still untapped potential.
That’s not it, though. The Jaguars have been busy adding talent everywhere, bringing in a list of free agents that include: WR Christian Kirk, WR Zay Jones, TE Evan Engram, OG Brandon Scherff, LB Foyesade Oluokun, CB Darious Williams, DT Folorunso Fatukasi. They did a good job re-shaping the roster around Trevor Lawrence by filling a ton of needs. It gives them the freedom to pick whoever their top player on the board is — regardless of position. All signs point to that player being Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson.
The Detroit Lions’ love affair with Malik Willis is the worst kept secret in the league. The breadcrumbs lead all the way back to the Senior Bowl, where the Lions coaching staff was able to work with Willis throughout the week. Aside from his slew of “treasure traits”, it is believed that his personality made a lasting impact on them.
Does this mean they are a lock to pick him at 2? Well, no. The team undoubtedly has needs elsewhere and a placeholder at QB in Jared Goff. The key word there is “placeholder”. At some point or another, it’s all but guaranteed that GM Brad Holmes will pick “his guy” to become the franchise cornerstone. They could elect to wait for a better crop of talent at the position in future drafts, or they could take the best option this year and allow Willis to be eased into starting. I’m buying the hype in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft.
