Detroit Lions Free Agent Target #5: Rashard Higgins, WR
The Detroit Lions already added D.J. Chark and they have other receivers on the roster. Amon-Ra St. Brown showed promise at the end of the season. Josh Reynolds has had flashes in Detroit. Even Quintez Cephus and Kalif Raymond have had their moments. However, the Lions shouldn’t stop upgrading this part of their roster. They can benefit from having more.
Rashard Higgins is a free agent that should fly well under the radar. When on the field, Higgins has produced, especially when it comes to scoring touchdowns. The issue is that for whatever reason he’s consistently been a healthy scratch in Cleveland. He hasn’t played a full schedule since his rookie season.
The reality with Higgins is there is a lot of untapped potential. He had a lot of chemistry with Baker Mayfield, so perhaps he ends up where Mayfield lands, but if not then the Lions need to express interest.
The 2018 and 2020 seasons were promising for Higgins. Each season he surpassed 570 receiving yards with four touchdowns. He could very well end up as a low-cost free agent that can produce for whoever gives him the chance. While Detroit has an improved wide receiver room already, adding Higgins would be another smart move.
