Seattle Seahawks Offseason Needs: Offensive Line

The offensive line has been a talking point for a while with the Seattle Seahawks. Duane Brown was a Pro Bowler this past season, but now could enter free agency and he’s not alone. Starters in center Ethan Pocic and right tackle Brandon Shell could hit the market in addition to Brown, leaving potentially three gaps on an offensive line that already allowed the eighth-most sacks in 2021 (46).

With Russell Wilson out and Drew Lock most likely in as the quarterback, Seattle will need to build this team to be run-first for a little bit. Building the offensive line up will allow the Seahawks to run the ball as the primary option and take pressure off the quarterback.

In the short-term, that could set up Lock to have success in Seattle and fix their quarterback issue internally. In the long-term, building up the offensive line will provide a better situation for any future quarterback added to the situation if Lock doesn’t work out. Whether it’s a rookie learning the NFL or a veteran finding a new home, keeping the quarterback upright will be a must.

The gist is that the Seahawks best bet to be competitive and give their team the best shot to rebound is to invest in the offensive line this offseason and create a more stable offensive system that can no longer rely on Wilson’s playmaking ability.
