Cleveland Browns: Five free agents to target
After the big Russell Wilson trade, it was clear that the Seattle Seahawks are going into a rebuild mode. In a subsequent move, they released arguably the best linebacker in the NFL over the past 10 years in Bobby Wagner. One team’s loss will certainly be another team’s gain. Could that team be the Cleveland Browns?
Last offseason, the Cleveland Browns signed former Indianapolis Colts linebacker, Anthony Walker. Walker played well for the team last season, but is was just a one-year deal. I’m sure they would be open to bringing him back, but if he does leave, the Cleveland Browns could use another veteran in the linebacker room.
There will likely not be a better veteran option on the market than Bobby Wagner. Since coming into the NFL in 2012, there has not been a more reliable and consistent linebacker than Wagner. He has been a staple of the Seattle defense for years and is a true MIKE linebacker that the Cleveland Browns need.
Wagner has never had a season under 100 total tackles. He rarely misses a tackle and has been the most valuable linebacker in the NFL since coming into the league, according to Pro Football Focus WAR. While he may not play at such a high level forever, Wagner surely has another couple years of elite football left in him.
Although the Cleveland Browns aren’t the most likely destination for Wagner, he could come in and be the center-piece of a young and talented defense. Bringing in a couple veterans to sure up the defensive side of the ball would be huge for the development of the team and Bobby Wagner is a perfect candidate.
