2022 NFL Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick 37 (Houston Texans)
Once a defensive back powerhouse, Florida’s pipeline to the NFL has dried a bit. Kaiir Elam could be changing that. He isn’t drawing first round talk just yet, but his size and strength make him an intriguing prospect to look towards in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Pairing Elam with Houston’s first round pick in Kyle Hamilton would allow the Texans to make a huge leap in the secondary in a division that is rich with young wide receiver talent. Over 30 games at Florida, Elam logged 20 passes defended, including 11 during the 2020 season. That ability should compliment Hamilton well in Houston.
2022 NFL Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick 38 (New York Jets)
After addressing the trenches in the first round, the Jets are really bolstering the secondary in the second. They took Daxton Hill with the 34th selection and now just a few picks later add a cornerback to their defensive back room with Kyler Gordon.
Gordon has been labeled as a strong cover corner with notes on his physicality and aggressive play. Those skills really showed up in 2021, logging 45 tackles, seven passes defended and a pair of interceptions.
Both Hill and Gordon do a little bit of everything and should be able to play off each other well for the Jets. The only concern would be if they are too similar, in which case the Jets could look for a different skill set if they believe that.
