Round 1, 9th Overall: Jermaine Johnson II, DE, Florida State

There are a plethora of options for the Seattle Seahawks at nine, and while the quarterback group isn’t the strongest, ruling it out can’t be done here. Still, in a draft with plenty of studs on the defensive side of the ball, that figures to be the direction here at nine, whether it be corner, edge rusher, or Jordan Davis.

Here, the Seahawks stick with edge rusher, going with Florida State’s Jermaine Johnson II. Johnson has been one of the biggest risers throughout the 2022 NFL Draft process, crushing it down at the Senior Bowl for two days and performing well in drills at the combine.

The top 10 hype is warranted because of the film and production. He’s one of the best early down edge defenders in the class, setting a strong edge and playing physical through contact to quickly shed blocks and make tackles on the perimeter. His 12 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss were great numbers after transferring away from Georgia, and he’s unlocked more than speed to power with his pass rush moves, as the 1-on-1 reps in Mobile advertised.

Johnson should get to start right away and make an impact on a defense that needs to be better up front on all three downs.
