7. New York Giants (via CHI): Travon Walker, DE, Georgia

The Giants are back on the clock in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft, and move toward the other side of the ball. The defensive line has some studs, including Dexter Lawrence and Azeez Ojulari. They could use a bit more upside on the edge, and that’s what Travon Walker provides.

Walker put together a dominant combine, running an absurd 4.51 at 272 pounds. The explosiveness and power are there as traits, and the lack of production stems from his positioning on the defensive line at Georgia to defend the run and occasional drops in coverage. If he gets a good coaching staff to develop him, the results could be spectacular.

8. Atlanta Falcons: Kayvon Thibodeaux, EDGE, Oregon

What a phenomenal scenario in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft for the Atlanta Falcons. With three picks in the first two rounds, it’s about getting the best player available. Edge rusher is a position that needs to finally get a cornerstone player. They do that here, ending the slide of Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Thibodeaux has the upside, bend, and flexibility to win the outside track, and has excellent explosion to power. The weird narrative of him taking plays off needs to end, because there’s examples all over of him chasing down plays from the backside and hustling downfield to make tackles. His power, hand placement, and leverage are great against the run, and the best is yet to come for him.
