Round 3, 69th Overall: Jeremy Ruckert, TE, Ohio State

The New York Jets switch back to the offensive side of the ball in round three, and go after a positions that’s long been a need. Yes, there was a ton of hope for Chris Herndon, but injuries kept him from contributing and he got traded to Minnesota. The Jets offense needs to find someone else who can attack the middle of the field other than Moore.

It’s time to get a tight end in house who can be a factor in both phases of the game in LaFleur’s offense. Ohio State’s Jeremy Ruckert is a great selection here in the third.

Ruckert didn’t have a lot of opportunities with the Buckeyes in the passing game, mostly due to the absurd talent at wide receiver in his time there. Ruckert returned to school in 2021 to show he could produce, and he did – as a blocker. He put together some solid reps against George Karlaftis and proved he can work inline. Ruckert has great hands and has some chops as a route runner.

The Jets got a very good look at Ruckert in the Senior Bowl, and he’s a great fit to finally fix their need at the position and give help to Wilson over the middle as a pass catcher.
