New York Giants 7-Round 2022 Mock Draft: A Frenzy On The OLine
Round 1, 5th Overall: Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi State
We’ve mentioned the hog mollies so much already, and it’s only fitting to start there for the New York Giants. Right now, there are three names at the top at tackle in the 2022 NFL Draft, and getting one of those three has to be a priority considering the massive drop-off.
Charles Cross is the selection here, and he will help form a great duo on the bookends with Thomas. Cross is the best pass protector in the draft, displaying excellent footwork, lateral quickness, and recovery skills. His anchor improved substantially in 2021, and he held his own against the best pass rushers in the SEC.
Round 1, 7th Overall: Jermaine Johnson II, EDGE, Florida State
The second of the two first rounders for the New York Giants is a bit of a bet on traits, but with enough floor to cover themselves. There’s a chance they would swing for David Ojabo, but Jermaine Johnson II provides a skill set on early downs that Ojabo doesn’t currently.
Johnson is a phenomenal edge setter in the run game, holding the point of attack and shedding blocks with relative ease. He’s improving as a pass rusher as well, and Johnson showed a bunch of moves down in Mobile at the Senior Bowl. He might not be the bendiest rusher, but he will trim the edge with explosion to power and has a long arm and rip move.
