Round 6, 197th Overall: Jeremiah Moon, EDGE, Florida

As far as team fit goes, the Carolina Panthers don’t exactly need another edge rusher (they have Brian Burns, Yetur Gross-Matos, and could bring back Reddick), but you can never have too many edge rushers in the modern NFL. This is especially true for teams that like to rotate their front seven to keep everybody fresh. And Florida’s Jeremiah Moon could conceivably thrive in just such a rotation situation.

The Florida Gators had two players in the top 10 in the SEC in sacks this past year (Brenton Cox Jr. and Zachary Carter) and they justifiably got most of the hype. But Jeremiah Moon made his share of plays this season as well.

Moon was a 4-star recruit out of Hoover, Alabama and due to multiple injuries wound up playing six years at Florida. He was deployed primarily as a standup pass rusher where he could use his length, speed, and athleticism to rush the quarterback on passing plays or shoot gaps and blow up running plays.

His tackling and pass rushing technical skills aren’t great and he doesn’t always play with good leverage, but Jeremiah Moon is a hard worker and high effort player. This late in the draft there’s nothing wrong with selecting someone like Moon who could be used strategically on obvious passing downs or coached up to earn some reps on special teams.
