Carolina Panthers 7-Round 2022 Mock Draft: A Solution At QB
Round 3, 83rd Overall: Ed Ingram, G, LSU
The Carolina Panthers like to run the ball, and their offensive line needs weren’t limited to the tackle spots. They need interior depth as well, and LSU’s Ed Ingram should provide that. He was a guard at LSU and was a full-time starter each of the past two seasons.
Ingram is big (6’3” 317) and excels at run blocking. The redshirt senior played at both right and left guard for the Tigers and has shown good strength and power when blocking on running plays. He’s also a smart player which can be a big plus for interior linemen, as they may have several different potential blocking assignments or responsibilities on a given play. Ingram’s not an elite-level athlete, which is part of the reason he’s available in the third round, but he should be able to pull and trap effectively, and he could definitely be an NFL starter sooner rather than later.
Ed Ingram was a consistent player for LSU, but he does have one major character red flag. He was suspended before the 2018 season for a “violation of team rules” and was suspended for the whole year. He was reinstated in 2019, and he played in 12 games for the Tigers that year, starting three. He’s been a starter ever since, and even came back for his senior season in 2021, earning a Senior Bowl invite. Ingram and Petit-Frere could make up 40% of the Panthers starting offensive line next season, and the team could potentially be better off because of it.
