2-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft: Pre-Combine Mock Has Trades Galore!
By Hunter Haas
The Eagles are on the clock again with their second pick of the first round, this time taking edge rusher Jermaine Johnson II in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft. Johnson is well-known from his time on the Netflix series Last Chance U. He was a standout on the program, parlaying his success into a scholarship offer from the Georgia Bulldogs.
It was jarring for Johnson to go from dominating JuCo, to playing against opponents with similar talent as his. After limited action, he transferred to Florida State and finally became the player many knew he would be.
Johnson is a three-down player on the edge and a perfect fit for the Philly defense. He offers run support and imposes his physicality while rushing the passer. His signature move is the bull rush and he consistently moved offensive tackles around with ease at the college level. Johnson could stand to mix in some finesse to his game, but his power moves will translate quickly.
Sauce Gardner and Jermaine Johnson ll gives Howie Roseman an A+ grade so far. Let’s see what he does with his last pick of round one.
I heavily considered giving the Eagles center Tyler Linderbaum, but the upside of Drake London was too much to ignore in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft. The Eagles made a surprising run to the playoffs with quarterback Jalen Hurts, but will need to continue to add talent around him in order to maximize his potential. Last year they added Heisman Trophy winner Devonta Smith, and this year they add a receiver that was on pace to give Devonta’s 2020 stats a run for their money.
Before breaking his ankle, London put up an unbelievable 88 catches, 1084 yards, and seven touchdowns in only eight games. I’m not great at math but that is an 11 catch average PER GAME. To put it into perspective, Smith recorded 72 catches, 1114 yards, and 12 touchdowns in the first eight games of his Heisman campaign. Granted, Smith was going against SEC competition, but the comparison is still just as impressive. Now we pair them together on the same NFL team and there is a lot of fun in store for fans.
