Wide Receiver

The run defense needs to be fixed, yes, but let’s not forget about adding more weapons for your franchise quarterback. The Los Angeles Chargers have a decision to make regarding Mike Williams this offseason, who could command a big deal if he isn’t franchise-tagged. In this writer’s opinion, it’s best to tag him or let him walk.

Either way, wide receiver should be in consideration, both in free agency and the 2022 NFL Draft. If Davante Adams becomes available, there should be zero hesitation in the front office to sign him. If not, Marquez Valdes-Scantling could come in a be a deep threat, as could D.J. Chark. Isaiah McKenzie could be a fun option for gadget touches and slot reps. Cedrick Wilson will be a hot commodity, but his burst, flexibility, and ability to create after the catch would be welcomed as well.

The 2022 NFL Draft presents the opportunity for the Los Angeles Chargers to select a wide receiver in the first round. If Jameson Williams is available at 17, it would be hard to pass on him. Williams is a phenomenal deep threat with good separation quickness to boot. His acceleration and stop/start quickness make him a fantastic prospect, and even if he misses most of year one, it’s worth it. If they look later, someone like Christian Watson or Skyy Moore make sense. Watson has the deep threat profile, and Moore is a great route running separator who excels post-catch. Moore has inside-outside versatility.
