Round 3, 74th Overall: Tariq Woolen, CB, UTSA

The emergence of Terrell to join the elite at the cornerback position was excellent for the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, but outside of him, the unit still has questions. Both Isaiah Oliver and Fabian Moreau, the “vets” in the room, are free agents. They drafted both Darren Hall and Avery Williams in 2021, and one of the two can hopefully secure the nickel position. Questions remain about the streaky play of Kendall Sheffield as well.

It won’t be surprising if the Falcons go corner earlier when the 2022 NFL Draft rolls around, but round three will still have some good talent on the board. The Falcons take a big swing here on UTSA Roadrunners corner Tariq Woolen here.

Woolen has the size and incredible length that will attract many teams in the draft. He has the build to be a press-man corner, and has shown the ability to flip his hips and run with speedy receivers. That length will come in handy to limit throwing windows even when he’s trailing.

Woolen is a bit of a project with technique, but the base athleticism and size give him a great upside profile. He could become a very good CB2 opposite Terrell if given some time to develop.
