Round 2, Pick 33: Cameron Thomas, EDGE, San Diego State

Scouting Report. San Diego State. Cameron Thomas. 33. Pick Analysis. EDGE. player. 901

Holding the first pick of the second round, the Jacksonville Jaguars could do a lot with this pick. The talent on the board will essentially be first round values. This opens the opportunity for a potential trade back if the Jaguars would want to add more assets. However, it will be hard for them to turn away from the quality of talent that will be left on the board.

One position that should have plenty of first round talent left at this pick is edge rushers. Jacksonville passed on this with the first pick in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need it. Edge is still a big need for this franchise and they need to address it early.

Cameron Thomas is a name that could come into play for the Jaguars at the start of the second. Thomas posted strong freshman and sophomore seasons, but it was a breakout junior season that puts him into this conversation. Tallying 10.5 sacks and 20.5 tackles for loss, Thomas turned heads this past year, but the lack of year-to-year production at that level combined with playing in the Mountain West could push him out of the first round.

If Thomas does fall, he could be an ideal pick for Jacksonville. He isn’t Hutchinson or Thibodeaux, but he’s good enough to make passing on them at one for Neal not seem like a big deal.
