Tight End/H-Back

This might be the most intriguing potential upgrade of the bunch on offense. The tight end position in Miami hasn’t gotten much production other than from Mike Gesicki, who is set to hit free agency. Unless McDaniel suddenly likes players who can’t block worth a darn, the Miami Dolphins will let him walk. If he isn’t thrilled with Hunter Long/Adam Shaheen, or just wants a true TE1, it opens a door for a free agent who will be highly coveted, but worth it: Dalton Schultz.

Schultz is a very good two-phase threat, succeeding inline and working the middle of the field well as a pass catcher. Will he cost a lot? Sure, but his impact, giving McDaniel a “plus one” in the run game is huge.

As for H-back, things get a bit more interesting. Odds are, McDaniel won’t find someone in the Kyle Juszczyk vein, we look to the 2022 NFL Draft. There are two players to watch who got fullback reps. Connor Heyward from Michigan state offers plenty as a pass catcher, as does Sooners hybrid weapon Jeremiah Hall.

Chigoziem Okonkwo is another potential H-back for the Dolphins to consider. He can hang in pass pro and as a blocker in general while also provide a very dynamic threat in the passing game.
